Jewellery is precious. Taking care of your silver in a few simple ways will ensure a lifetime of wear.
STORE IN ZIP LOCK PACKETS
Pure silver has a natural tendency to tarnish when exposed to air, moisture and chemicals.
Therefore, when not in use store your jewellery in an airtight zip lock provided along with the packaging.
GENTLE RUB
Clean your silver with a soft cleaning cloth to remove light tarnishing. Do not use liquid cleaners on pieces with carving as it seeps into the engraving. Liquid cleaners can also damage stones and kundan.
AVOID HARD SURFACES AND VELVET
Do not store your jewellery in velvet and suede boxes. These fabrics are soft on the stones but cause the metal to tarnish.
Line your jewellery boxes with mulmul or cotton fabric. Hard surfaces like stone, wood and plastic can scratch and dull the surface, stones and enamel work.
NO DUMPING
Remember to handle your jewellery gently. Don’t dump it all in one box. Keep in separate compartments and packets to avoid scratching, chipping and entanglement.
CHALK IS YOUR FRIEND
Yes chalk! Or even packets of silica gel. Keep them in your jewel box to absorb ambient moisture.
AVOID WATER AND EXTREME HEAT
To preserve the 22kt gold polish, avoid contact with water, chemicals and prolonged exposure to heat. Bangles and rings with stones and gold-plating should be removed before washing hands. The soap forms a film over the stones and dulls the appearance.
JEWELLERY LAST
When getting ready, always wear your jewellery after using cosmetics, skincare products, hairspray and perfume to avoid contact with chemicals that may cause damage to the silver, stones and pearls.
WEAR OFTEN
We all have our favourites but believe it or not, wearing your jewellery often and in rotation keeps it happy and shiny.
DON’T USE TOOTHPASTE
Leave this for your teeth. This popular home remedy does more harm than good.
The abrasive nature of toothpaste will damage the metal as well as stones and pearls.
REPLATING AND REPAIR
Gold plating on silver will eventually wear out with significant and prolonged wear. If maintained well, the plating easily lasts for a couple of years. Reach out to us at [email protected] to have your Raabel jewellery repaired or re-plated at a nominal charge.
